BASC has praised the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) for their common sense approach to pest control.
The NIEA has renewed, with no changes, the general licences relevant to the control of the following species: Wood Pigeon, Feral Pigeon, Crow, Magpie, Rook, Jackdaw, Greater Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, House Sparrow and Starling.
BASC’s land management policy officer, Dr Conor O’Gorman, said: “For several years the authorities in Northern Ireland have provided a consistent legal framework for the management of bird pest species relative to the total confusion caused by delays in Wales and changes in meaning in Scotland and England in recent years.”
BASC is the only organisation that provides a central resource of information on general licences in the UK – for more information click here.
