A comprehensive guide to the facts on shooting sports has been distributed to every newsroom across the country. “Shooting – the facts for journalists” has been compiled and published by BASC.
Two thousand copies of the booklet have been printed and will be sent to television and radio stations, newspapers, magazines and online publishers.
BASC’s head of press relations, Dave Harper, said: “Journalists are always under pressure of tight deadlines so it’s not surprising that sometimes shooting is misunderstood by the media. We hope this guide for journalists will help them report on our sport.”
The guide covers everything from the types of sporting firearms in general use to the licensing process, through the law relating to young people, quarry and pest species, trapping and many other aspects of BASC’s work.
Dave Harper said: “Our members get particularly irate when journalists misrepresent shooting. This is part of BASC’s ongoing campaign to ensure that shooting sports receive a fair hearing in the media.”
