BASC gears up for CLA game fair

The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), is gearing up for this year’s CLA Game Fair. BASC will have a major presence at this year’s fair, which will be held at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire from 23rd – 25th July.

BASC will have a stand on Gun Makers’ Row, where expert staff will be on hand for the duration of the event to answer questions. Sections of the stand will focus on firearms, conservation, gamekeeping, research, training and standards and wildfowling. There will also be a deer management section, which will provide a trophy measuring service on the 23rd and 24th July.

Visitors to the fair will be able to sample a taste of game at BASC’s Game’s On stand.  TV chef and BASC council member Mike Robinson will be giving game cookery demonstrations on a barbecue, in association with Calor Gas. Game meat will be provided by Will Oakley of Shropshire-based Willo Game.

Visitors will also be able to try out the Marksman ST2 interactive shooting simulator, which allows users to use their own shotgun to analyse their shooting ability, under the professional eye of BASC trained shotgun coaches.

The Wildlife Habitat Trust will launch its 2010 fundraising stamp, Curlew on Lough Foyle by Andrew Haslen, at 11.30am on 23rd July.

BASC’s membership team will be on hand to recruit new members and renew existing memberships and the Gloucestershire Wildfowlers’ club will be manning their display on the wildfowling section. Pigeon expert and countryman Chris Green will also be there to provide advice and expertise.

BASC will be running a shotgun coaching line where our high quality coaching team will offer expert tuition and advice. Game fair visitors can try shooting for the first time or sharpen up their skills. Lessons cost £8 for under 21s and £15 for people aged over 21. They include gun fit and safety instruction with a BASC qualified coach.

There will also be a gundog area sponsored by Chudleys dog food.  It will feature challenging layouts and testing retrieves.

BASC’s director of operations Simon Hamlyn said: “This year’s CLA Game Fair promises to be one of the highlights of the summer. BASC is providing a series of innovative attractions with staff on hand to offer advice and information and to meet members and potential members.”
