A team of BASC staff scaled the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in under 24 hours this weekend, raising thousands of pounds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
The eight-strong team completed the 24-hour challenge with 23 minutes to spare and is expecting to raise close to £10,000.
They took on the sponsored challenge after a colleague was diagnosed with the disease and started by scaling Ben Nevis, before moving on to Scafell Pike and finishing on Snowdon.
Garry Doolan, BASC’s deputy director of communications and public affairs, said: “We had little to no sleep for 24 hours and were nursing blisters and very sore muscles, but it was all worth it to help raise funds for a cause that is dear to our hearts.
“In those moments on the mountains when energy dropped and the finish line in Llanberis seemed an awfully long way off, we thought about our colleague who would have been with us were it not for the awful effects of the disease.
“It is an awful condition that strikes down previously fit and healthy people without warning. The MNDA does fantastic work for sufferers and their families and strives to find better treatments and, eventually, a cure. Our colleague has told us he would have been desperately lost without their support and all eight of us who undertook this challenge were very proud to be raising much-needed funds for them.”
