Two introductory days, designed to provide a taste of countryside activities for women and Young Shots, will be held by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), in Wales during August and September.
A ladies’ countryside activity introductory day will be held at Rhydlewis Trout Fishery, Llandysul near Ceredigion on the 31st August 2013. The day will offer a chance to try clay shooting with BASC-accredited coaches and fly casting, as well as learning about birds of prey and the art of falconry. Participants will be able to visit the smokery, trout ponds and watch gundogs in action. The event costs £40 which includes refreshments and lunch.
A Young Shots’ introductory day will be held at the Mid-Wales Shooting Centre near Caersws on the 28th September 2013. The event will provide young people with the opportunity to have a shotgun lesson and to try air-rifle shooting with BASC-accredited coaches, as well as getting hands-on experience of falconry. Participants will also learn about a year in the life of a gamekeeper and watch gundog training and displays. The event costs £20.
Meurig Rees director of BASC Wales said: “It is important that people who want to learn countryside activities, especially shooting, are taught how to do them safely and correctly. These events are informative, hands-on and enjoyable. By providing tasters we hope to teach people the basics which can then be built on and expanded into wider areas of learning.”
Both events will start at 10am with registration at 9am; they are open to BASC members and non-members. Places are limited so advance booking is essential.
