Working gundog entries up for Crufts

Entries of working gundogs for the BASC gamekeepers’ classes at the world’s top dog show have shown a substantial rise. There are 392 entries for the classes at Crufts 2013 up from 297 in 2012. The classes will be held on Crufts Gundog day, Saturday the 9th March.

The BASC gamekeepers’ classes, to be held in rings 25, 26 and 35 in Hall 5 at the NEC, offer a unique opportunity for the public to see working gundogs in their prime after a busy shooting season.

One of the attractions in the gamekeeping rings this year will be an invitation scurry demonstration, where dogs make a retrieve against the clock.

Glynn Evans, BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, said: “It is encouraging to see the number of entries for the gamekeeping classes up from last year’s show. The BASC gamekeepers’ rings provide valuable opportunities for gamekeepers, pickers-up and gundog handlers to network and compete. It promises to be a packed day and visitors are welcome to come along and find out more about working gundogs.”
