A new independent conservation charity is being launched by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). The Conservation Trust (Marford Mill) will open up access to new sources of funding for conservation work.
Tim Russell, BASC director of conservation, said: “BASC’s Green Shoots conservation programme, which works with other organisations such as local wildlife trusts, demonstrates the important contribution that shooting makes to improving the status of a wide range of habitats and species. To develop specific projects for the Green Shoots programme BASC wishes to bid for tens of thousands of pounds made available from landfill tax. To do this, just over 10% of a project’s cost must come from an independent source. The Conservation Trust (Marford Mill) can become this source.”
A donation of £20 with gift aid made directly to the Conservation Trust (Marford Mill) could ultimately provide up to £250 for conservation projects on the ground.
In the UK today two million hectares of land are actively managed for conservation as a result of shooting. Each year shoot providers spend £250 million and shooters devote 2.7 million work days to conservation projects.
