Thames Valley Police is calling on BASC members to give their views on the current firearms licensing application process as part of a consultation.
They are asking members who have dealt directly with the force to answer the following questions:
- What currently goes well in regards to the application process?
- What part(s) of the process could be improved?
- What are your experiences with other forces’ process? – What can we learn from them – both good and not so good?
- Please share any other thoughts or comments in relation to the application process.
The force, who have just recently launched their online application system, also wants to hear from those members who plan to use the facility to find out what benefits they think it will bring.
Paul Dale, BASC’s firearms team manager, said: “The provision of an online digital platform for firearms licensing is something that BASC and shooters have been requesting for a long time.
We welcome any initiative that brings an improved service to our members. There will undoubtedly be teething problems and it is vital that Thames Valley receive feedback so that any faults can be rectified.
“We welcome an eCommerce solution to the licensing system. However, we are conscious that this must not be the only option available. Applicants must be given the opportunity to submit their applications by post if they so choose.
All feedback will be taken into account as the force makes recommendations to improve the process and arrange workshops to help make the application system easier and more streamlined.
