Wildfowling is set to restart at Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve after a two month delay. Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), The Caerlaverock and District Wildfowlers Association and The Scottish Solway Wildfowlers Association have now put in place a new approach to stewarding and managing wildfowling at this internationally important location.
The associations have agreed to steward the scheme, working to support SNH in its wardening of the reserve. Their job will be to encourage best practice and maintain compliance with the rules linked to the permits for wildfowling issued by SNH under the reserve’s byelaws.

This trial of collaborative management is an imaginative way forward that ensures wildfowlers themselves take more responsibility and help resource the management of their sport.”
