Plumpton takes top two spots in BASC college clay shoot

A team of four student gamekeepers from Plumpton College in East Sussex saw off competition from 20 other teams from 10 colleges across the UK to win the BASC annual Gamekeeping College Clay Shoot.

Another team from Plumpton came second in the competition and student Tom Marsh was crowned overall high gun. A team from Reaseheath College in Cheshire took the third spot.

Hermione West from Wiltshire College was the ladies’ high gun and top lecturer was Rod Greenwood from Sparsholt College in Hampshire.

Each team shot 320 targets, with individuals facing 80 clays over a layout of different stands at Park Farm Shooting Ground near Worcester.

Murray Woodward, one of BASC’s game and gamekeeping officers, said: “BASC was really pleased to once again host this competition and it was great to see student gamekeepers from across the country test themselves on a great clay shooting layout course and interact with each other. A massive thank you to all the students, college staff and those who helped make the event such a success.”

Robbie Nicolle, programme manager for Plumpton College gamekeeping, said: “The day was very well organised by BASC with a range of sporting targets set by Park Farm to test all abilities. It was great to see so many colleges present on the day and the future gamekeeping professionals. The standard of shooting was very high and all competitors should be proud of their scores.”

The event was supported by Chudleys, BushWear, Percussion, Promatic Traps, Fur Feather and Fin.
