Dan Reynolds has been appointed BASC’s new director of England.
Dan joined BASC as director south east England in 2011. He will remain director south east in addition to his new role.
He said: “I am delighted to take up the role of director England. Membership of the association continues to rise, and I look forward to working with colleagues across England to ensure we can meet the demand for services and events which this membership growth brings. Shooting also faces a number of challenges in the current climate, and I am keen to ensure that we utilise the expertise that we have in the English regional teams to engage members, partner organisations and decision makers to meet those challenges as they arise.”
A qualified zoologist and a former ecologist, Dan takes part in most forms of shooting. His main shooting interests are wildfowling, deer stalking, pigeon shooting and rough shooting.
He added: “I have always had a passion for the countryside and shooting sports. I spent most of my spare time as a youngster ferreting, beating or helping out on local shoots. When I was old enough to get out on my own, I spent every hour not at school out hunting with my air rifle.
“My interest has only grown over the years. There is still always more to learn and ways to increase your enjoyment of the sport, recently this has led to me learning to carve my own duck decoys. I have a springer spaniel which I am seldom without, working a dog is a big part of the enjoyment of a day out in the field. I enjoy cooking game, which is especially satisfying when it is something which is the result of your own efforts.
“I retain a keen interest in conservation, with involvement in a number of conservation projects related to shooting – including educating others about the work those who shoot put in to conserve our native habitats and species.”
Sarah Turner, a member of BASC Council, said: “Dan is a dedicated, professional and enthusiastic member of the BASC team and I was delighted to hear of his appointment as director of England, as I am sure many of the members are. It is a huge credit to Dan and the work he has done in his role as director of the south east region, I look forward to seeing how he develops his new role. Well done Dan.”
Steve Bloomfield, BASC’s director of operations, said: “Dan will be responsible for co-ordinating the English regions. As director England he will create that vital link between our head office functions and the regional teams who deliver our front-line member events and services.”
