BASC gears up for 2017 scurry league launch

The BASC Chudleys Scurry League 2017 launches at the West of England Game Fair in Somerset next month.

Scurries, which are timed retrieving competitions for gundogs, will be held at nine game fairs across the country during the spring and summer.

Each event offers competitors an opportunity to gain prizes on the day as well as points for the league. At the end of the scurry season, the top 20 competitors go head-to-head in the final at the Midland Game Fair.

Alex Farrell, one of BASC’s game and gamekeeping officers, said: “This is a friendly and inclusive competition open to all gundog owners. Now entering its seventh year, this year’s BASC Chudleys Scurry League will be off to a flying start at the West of England Game Fair.

“The event has grown every year, with more than 1,600 entrants in 2016. We hope to see even more handlers and their dogs at the events scheduled for this year. We would encourage people to come along with their gundogs to enter on the day and have a go.”

A list of all the scurry league events can be found on the BASC website along with the 2017 Scurry League table, which will be updated after each event.

The first event will be held at the West of England Game Fair at the Royal Bath & West Showground on March 18th and 19th where there will be a variety of scurry activities with qualifying points for the league. Each scurry entry costs £2.
