Following comments made on the Jeremy Vine show today, BASC would like to clarify its position in respect of medical involvement in the application process for firearm and shotgun certificates.
BASC is committed to the new medical scheme introduced in April. In particular BASC acknowledges the benefits to be derived from the inclusion of encoded reminders onto certificate holders’ medical records and the early supply of information by GPs in the small number of cases where this is deemed necessary.
BASC’s advice to applicants in respect of fees reiterates Home Office guidance on the subject. This states that there is no expectation of a fee for the initial check of the patient record in response to the standard police letter.
