Take a #twelfie this grouse season

grousecompBASC is launching a photo competition to celebrate the start of the grouse season on the Glorious Twelfth. Submissions will be accepted from August 12 to August 31. To enter, simply tweet your image with the hashtag #twelfie. We are accepting all general photography related to grouse shooting.

Duncan Thomas, BASC northern director, said: “Grouse shooting is one of the UK’s oldest traditions. This competition is a way for people who shoot to share their experiences with a wider audience. Some great photographs may even encourage others to give shooting a try. So this season, get out there and send us some glorious twelfies!”

BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “Grouse shooting in the UK has an annual value of almost £100 million, and supports the equivalent of over 2,500 full-time jobs.

“On top of that, the work to preserve exceptionally rare heather moorland as a result of grouse shooting helps support numerous species of endangered wading bird. This competition is a chance for us all to celebrate a time of year that is of the utmost importance to the economy and conservation.”

Ian Grindy, a BASC council member, said: “Around 40,000 people take part in grouse shooting annually, and the average shooting day brings forty people together. This competition is a way to expand the social side of grouse shooting even further.”

The prize for the competition is a grouse jacket worth almost £700 from James Purdey & Sons.
The runner up will receive 500 Eley Zenith cartridges available in your choice of 12 or 20 bore.
