This year’s Countryside Clay Shoot has been hailed as fantastic by the organisers.
Twenty eight teams competed for the Hugh van Cutsem challenge cup at the Six Mile Bottom estate in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
The day was held to raise money for the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust (GWT) and the CLA Charitable Trust and was organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and the CLA.
Participants included teams from the Angling Trust, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the Countryside Alliance, CLA, Guns on Pegs and the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation (NGO).
Teams of four competed across six stands with a mix of simulated game targets.
Participants had a chance to shoot some of the finest shotguns in the world for charity, courtesy of globally renowned gun maker James Purdey & Sons, for a donation on the day.
Edward van Cutsem presented the winning team with the Hugh van Cutsem Challenge Cup, dedicated to the memory of his father the keen shot and countryman.
Steve Bloomfield, BASC’s Director England, who helped organise the day said: “This year’s Countryside Clay Shoot was a fantastic day and a great way to benefit these two very worthy causes. The winning team, Staffordshire Game Farm – captained by Tony Thompson, shot 100 out of 100 on the high pheasant stand and 80 out of 80 on the driven English partridge stand. We were delighted with the turnout for this year’s event. Special thanks once again to Six Mile Bottom for their support. Thanks also to Eley and Purdey for their support and to Bablake Wines of Coventry for supplying the champagne.”
CLA Deputy President Tim Breitmeyer, who took part in the day, said: “The 2016 Countryside Clay Shoot was enjoyed by all and I was pleased to see so many coming together for two very good causes. The CLA Charitable Trust undertakes important work promoting education about the countryside, providing facilities for disabled people and supporting training in agriculture, horticulture and conservation. I would like to thank all those that participated in the fantastic day and all those who helped organise it.”
