BASC is hosting a farm walk at a premier UK grey partridge estate which has received national recognition for its wildlife-friendly farming.
The event, on the Peppering Farm beat of the award-winning Norfolk Estate in Sussex, will feature a talk by head gamekeeper Charlie Mellor.
He leads one of two ‘keepers teams at Arundel and has been part of a team responsible for re-establishing the wild grey partridge population on the estate.
The estate has received national plaudits for it farming practices and won the 2010 gold medal in the prestigious “Purdey Conservation Awards”.
Justin Clarke, BASC South East regional officer, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in shooting and wildlife conservation to see first-hand how this exciting project has managed farmland to produce an impressive increase in grey partridge and other farmland wildlife.
“We are extremely grateful to the Duke of Norfolk for giving his permission for the walk. It should be a fascinating insight into the life of a working estate.”
The event, on Thursday 30th June 2016 (2pm), is open to BASC members and non-members. The cost of £15 per person includes light refreshments. There will also be a raffle in aid of BASC’s Young Shots programme.
