Commenting on the publication of the Law Commission’s Review of Wildlife Law, BASC Chairman Alan Jarrett, said:
“BASC welcomes the publication of this report – which covers wildlife law for England and Wales – which has been some years in production. Throughout BASC has been involved and consulted as a major stakeholder.”
“The Law Commission, which was charged with producing proposals for the reform of wildlife law in England and Wales has produced a significant piece of work in a highly complex area. The Law Commission has published a draft Bill along with its report.
“BASC will carefully review the recommendations to ensure that any unintended consequences are fully identified before any of the recommendations are taken forward by government.
“BASC notes that once such legislation is introduced to parliament it will be open to amendment. There are therefore no guarantees that the measures contained in the draft Bill will survive that process.
“BASC will be talking to all political parties to ensure that the interests of shooting are protected if legislation is taken forward.”
