Try a Taste of Game at Perth Farmers’ Market this weekend

Game On guidelines.qxdA project to encourage more people to eat game meat and show hunters the benefits of developing a market for game will be launched at Perth Farmers’ Market this weekend.

The project is called Adding Value to Scottish Game and at Perth a team from Scotland’s Natural Larder will demonstrate how to prepare and cook game meat, showing how easily delicious and healthy meals can be produced. Tasters and recipe cards will be distributed to inspire market customers to buy game on sale from producers at the farmer’s market.

The team will emphasise that game is a natural, wild food, produced locally, that consumers can buy with confidence and cook with ease. After Perth they will give demonstrations at five other Scottish farmers’ markets during the coming winter. The team will be helped at two of the events by students from the Elmwood Campus of Scotland’s Rural College.

Funded by the Community Food Fund celebrating the Year of Food and Drink, the project will also encourage hunters and estates to exploit the potential of selling their game locally to increase their economic return.
