South West clay shoot raises £2,000 for charity

IMG_0702A charity clay shoot, organised by the BASC Somerset social committee, raised almost £2,000 for forces’ charity Help for Heroes and the BASC South West Young Shots Programme.

The event, which was sponsored by Derbyshire’s Estate Agents and supported by Battens Solicitors, was held at the Cricket St Thomas Hotel near Chard in Somerset.

There was also an air rifle competition sponsored by BSA Guns, a sporting flush and lessons from BASC-accredited shotgun coaches.

Food was supplied by Rookmarsh Catering, who donated 20 per cent of their takings.

James Green from BASC South West England said; “We couldn’t have hoped for any better. We are still waiting to confirm the final figure but it’s set to be close to £2,000 which, considering this is the first event of its kind run by the social committee, is a huge achievement. It really wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support from everyone involved.”

Paul Curtis from Derbyshire’s Estate Agents said; “We were really pleased to have been involved with such a great event; many of our guests had never shot before and really enjoyed having the opportunity. We look forward to working with BASC and the social committee again.”

Mike Hardy from BASC Council said; “Congratulations to all involved. People who shoot are known for their fundraising efforts and generosity. These two very worthy causes will benefit greatly from the support of everyone who took part in and supported the event.”
