Young Shot Liam raises thousands for charity

Liam picOne of BASC’s North West Young Shots Ambassadors has raised thousands of pounds for charity by organising two clay shoots.

A clay shoot orgainsed by 19-year-old Liam Cupit raised  £3,500 for Cancer Research UK and Rainbow House. Earlier this year another clay shoot organised by Liam raised over £3,500 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Both clay shoots were held at Ribblebank Fieldsports Clay ground at Hesketh Bank, Lancashire.

Cash was raised from a clay shooting competition, a raffle and generous auction prizes donated by people in the area who shoot.

Duncan Thomas, regional officer for BASC in the North West, said: “We knew when we formed the Young Shots Ambassadors that they would deliver some great results but this is amazing. I’m immensely proud of these youngsters, they are absolutely leading the way and the next generation of shooting looks great. Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Care and Rainbow House are all very deserving charities. Well done Liam and to Sam Slinger and his team at Ribblebank for hosting these events.”

Liam said: “My family has been affected by cancer and I know of several other families which are also affected. Figures now suggest that 1 in 3 people within the UK will develop some form of cancer during their lives. By raising money for Cancer Research and Macmillan I saw it as helping patients and also creating funds for the prevention of other people having to go through the illness.

“Raising money for Legacy Rainbow house was Sam Slinger’s idea. Legacy is a local charity which provides support for children and young adults with disabilities and gives them life opportunities which if not for the charity would not be available to them. When Sam suggested sharing the money between Cancer Research and Legacy I immediately agreed as both are worthy charities and families can be affected and supported by both.

“I would like to thank the people who helped make the days possible, and also the kind members of the shooting community who donated money and auction lots. As well as local businesses and people who donated prizes and raffle items.”

Mike Hardy from BASC Council said: “People who shoot are known for their fundraising efforts and generosity. Well done to Liam and everyone else involved in organising and supporting this fantastic event. What an excellent example they are setting to their peers and beyond.”
