BASC members using Green Shoots Mapping are being urged to get a friend mapping to be in with a chance of winning a pair of Bauer 8.5 X 50 binoculars each.
All they need to do is encourage a friend to start using BASC’s interactive online Green Shoots Mapping system. Both members will need to put some wildlife records into the system between now and September 2016.
BASC’s interactive online Green Shoots Mapping system allows people to make bespoke maps of their shooting grounds and to record species and habitat information which feeds into BASC’s Green Shoots conservation programme. The records help to underline the importance of shooting’s contribution to conservation and ultimately to inform national conservation policies.
Ian Danby, BASC’s head of biodiversity projects, said: “If you have already entered your shoot’s details then taking part in our shoot review request in Spring 2016 or giving us your sightings of woodcock this winter counts as providing wildlife records.
“There is no limit to the number of times you can enter the promotion – we want more members to use Green Shoots Mapping to help us protect the sport. So if you know a lot of other BASC members who could use Green Shoots Mapping then invite them all.”
Michael Sherman, vice chairman of BASC Council, said: “Shooting’s contribution to conservation is huge. Shooters spend 3.9 million work days on conservation – the equivalent of 16,000 full-time jobs. Shooting is involved in the management of two-thirds of the UK’s rural land area and shoot providers spend nearly £250 million a year on conservation. Green Shoots Mapping helps us to demonstrate that contribution.”
