BASC helps secure five-year wildfowling consent on the Humber Estuary

A successful wildfowling agreement has been negotiated on the Humber Estuary for the Alkborough Wild fowlers and Conservationists’ club, working with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).

The renewed consent will start on 1 September 2015 and last for five years on a section of the upper River Trent. It adds to a five-year agreement made in 2014 on the River Ouse. Both sites lie within the Humber Estuary SSSI (site of special scientific interest).

The agreements required negotiation with Natural England to agree terms which ensure shooting is sustainable and would not adversely affect the site’s SSSI designation. The negotiations were carried out by BASC’s specialist wildfowling team, working with the club.

Lyndon Lowe, secretary of Alkborough Wildfowlers and Conservationists said: “The club has been totally impressed with the professional way BASC has handled this consent and by the way BASC has dealt with our club’s consents and leases over the years. The service provided by BASC in relation to wildfowling has always been excellent.”

BASC councillor Lee Freeston said: “The BASC wildfowling team provides BASC-affiliated clubs and members with an exceptional service when negotiating leases and consents. They have the knowledge and experience to get results acceptable to all parties involved. Ninety per cent of land managed for Wildfowling is in areas designated as SSSI and BASC has a proven track record.

“Over the last ten years BASC has, on behalf of its affiliated clubs, successfully negotiated more than 125 lease and consent renewals on Crown Estate and other foreshore and I am pleased to see the successful conclusion of this consent renewal on the Humber Estuary for the Alkborough club.”
