A major game tasting event will be hosted at the world-renowned Borough Market in London on 11th, 12th and 13th November by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
Visitors to the market will be able to sample a traditional taste of game, as well as game with a tandoori twist and a French flavour prepared by some of the world’s top chefs.
The event has been organised as part of BASC’s National Taste of Game Fortnight, which will run from 6th – 20th November 2010. It has been extended this year from a week-long event because of its popularity and will feature a range of events organised to promote game, which has seen an explosion in popularity in recent years.
National Taste of Game Fortnight forms part of BASC’s Game’s On initiative which highlights the benefits of game meat as a local, wild and nutritious food and encourages people to enjoy the great taste of game.
On November 11th, Vivek Singh, Hari HK Nagaraj and Abdul Yaseen from the Cinnamon Club, Westminster, will give an Indian cookery demonstration between 11am and 1pm.
This will be followed by a French cookery demonstration by chef Bjorn van der Horst between 1pm and 2pm.
Restaurateur and broadcaster Mike Robinson will demonstrate game preparation and traditional game cookery on November 12th between 11am and 2pm.
On Saturday 13th November, Anirudh Arora from the Covent Garden-based Moti Mahal restaurant will put on an Indian cookery demonstration. This will be followed by a demonstration between 1pm and 2pm by Sunil Sinha from the Massala restaurant in Cobham, Surrey.
Simon Hamlyn, BASC’s director of operations, said: "I am delighted that such a talented array of world class chefs such as Mike Robinson and Vivek Singh are able to support our game tasting initiative at Borough Market this year. This three day event demonstrates once again that BASC is at the forefront of promoting game as a wild and nutritious food.”
All of the game used in the demonstrations will be provided by longstanding BASC member Peter Gott, from Sillfield Farm in Cumbria. Chefs on Stage will sponsor the three day event, providing a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen.
A celebration of game dinner will be hosted at the Cinnamon Club as part of National Taste of Game Fortnight on 11th November. Activities are planned for Harrods and the Oxo Tower restaurant, details of which will be released soon.
