The shooting community in Cumbria has raised hundreds of pounds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation’s (BASC) Northern regional officer has recently presented the Air Ambulance with a cheque for £500 at the helicopter’s base in Langwathby.
The money was raised through a sporting auction at the BASC Eden Game Shooters Evening (sponsored by Northern Game Feeds) which was held at the Shepherds Inn in Carlisle in April.
BASC’s regional officer, Steve Woodhall, said: “We felt that it was important for the shooting community to support this essential service. Averaging 370 flights each year the Pride of Cumbria ensures that rapid emergency response is available within minutes to the most remote locations which can be the difference between life and death.”
The ‘Pride of Cumbria’ is a unique air ambulance which is completely self-funded, having to raise £1.2 million per year to provide its vital service.
