Sainsbury’s to support National Taste of Game Week

One of Britain’s biggest supermarkets, Sainsbury’s, has teamed up with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) to promote the eating of game.

The supermarket has just launched a new food range including game casserole, wild venison, wild rabbit, whole partridge and wood pigeon which will carry BASC’s Game’s On logo. The launch of the new products coincides with National Taste of Game Week on 15-22 November which is also organised by BASC.

Gemma Fraser, Sainsbury’s game buyer, said: “We are enjoying a successful game period and are in double digit growth year on year. It is clear that customers are gaining a greater appreciation for game and that is reflected in our ever growing portfolio. We have extended our range to over 300 stores now to make the range more accessible.”

Over the last three years around 500,000 recipe leaflets have been distributed by BASC through a network of game fairs, game tasting events and game dealers. Dozens of recipes along with plenty of helpful information and advice about game is available via the Game’s On website: www.gameson.org.uk.

Across the UK all sorts of game food related activities are taking place from 15-22 November. There are various competitions as part of National Taste of Game week, including a chance to win a day at the Mike Robinson’s Game and Wild food cookery school in Yattendon, Berkshire or winning one of two chefs for the night to cook a special game dinner for eight people.
