New BASC team in Wales

A new team has taken over BASC Wales.

Meurig Rees has taken over from Glynn Cook as BASC Wales director and Derek Williams has joined the organisation as BASC Wales country officer.

Glynn Cook has retired after 24 years with the organisation. Meurig has spent almost seven years as Wales country officer.

He paid tribute to Glynn Cook, saying: “I would like to thank Glynn for everything he has done for BASC. In addition to everything he did for BASC members in Wales, he was a popular face at game fairs and events across the rest of the UK and will be greatly missed. He will be a hard act to follow but I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Derek has a broad experience in country sports with game shooting, wildfowling and deer stalking being his main interests. He joins BASC Wales from the Environment Directorate of Gwynedd County Council and has many years experience working with conservation organisations including the Countryside Council for Wales, Forestry Commission Wales and the National Trust.
