Lib Dems bring the New Year in with a bang

BASC provided a New Year’s treat for neighbouring mid-Wales MPs, Lembit Opik and Roger Williams when it arranged a morning’s clay pigeon shooting for them at the Mid Wales Shooting Centre at Caerswys, Powys.

Although both MPs had handled firearms in the past, they were glad of the expert tuition of BASC Shotgun Coaches Steve Wilson and Clive Gibbons who made sure that Lembit and Roger had a safe and enjoyable time.  Despite the blustery conditions, both MPs shot well and were keen to try shooting again.

Roger Williams said: "Shooting sports generate £73 million a year for the Welsh economy and are enormously important for rural areas."

Lembit Opik said "This was the best shooting tuition I have ever had. I really enjoyed it."

Christopher Graffius BASC Director of Communications said: "BASC regularly takes MPs clay shooting and I’m delighted that Roger and Lembit took up our invitation. Both of them have been great supporters of the sport in parliament and after the shooting we had a helpful discussion on Lib Dem policy in support of shooting sports."

Due to a family illness, Gabriela Irimia – one of the Cheeky Girl duo – was unable to join her partner Mr Opik, but BASC has extended an invitation for a future date.
