Members of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and friends enjoyed a taste of game and beer at the sixth Hook Norton Brewery Taste of Game evening at Banbury, Oxfordshire, on 4th February.
The event organised by BASC saw more than 50 guests enjoy a brewery tour and tastings as well as displays from William Powell gun makers, Hugh Hinde and his antique gun collections and a game butchery demonstration from Julien Pursglove of Sainsbury’s which proved to be a highlight for many guests. One commented that: “The demonstration was exactly what people need to encourage them to cook with game at home, as it showed how simple it can be. It was an enlightening talk and great to see game prepared properly."
Guests were treated to a range of six dishes including partridge pate, jugged hare, game terrine, pan fried pigeon breast, loin of venison and game sausages. All were accompanied by a different beer from Hook Norton’s range.
Jenni Thompson, BASC’s Regional Officer for the South East, said: “The Taste of Game evening at Hook Norton is always a highlight in our calendar and it is wonderful to have the continued support of such a well established local business. Hook Norton’s wide range of beers means that there really is something for everyone and they make a great accompaniment to game dishes. We hope that by running events such as this one that we can inspire everyone to experiment with their game cookery and enjoy this wonderful food with friends and family alike."
